Lagos Police Flood Streets With 10000 Officers Ahead of Festive Rush

The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out an extensive security operation across the state with the deployment of more than 10,000 officers ahead of the festive season.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed the development on Tuesday during a media briefing at the police headquarters in Ikeja.

He said the massive deployment forms part of a broader security strategy designed to guarantee peace, strengthen public confidence, and curb criminal activities during the holiday period.

According to the police chief, officers have already been positioned across strategic locations, including highways, business districts, recreational centres, and densely populated communities.

Fatai noted that the command had also intensified surveillance operations in several crime-prone areas across Lagos.

He revealed that recent raids and intelligence-driven operations had led to the arrest of multiple suspects linked to various criminal activities.

The commissioner stressed that the command was determined to sustain a visible policing structure capable of deterring criminal elements throughout the celebrations.

He explained that Lagos traditionally witnesses a sharp increase in human and vehicular traffic during festive periods due to the influx of visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

To prevent security breaches, the police said operational units, tactical squads, and patrol teams have been placed on high alert across the state.

Fatai maintained that the security architecture put in place was robust enough to respond swiftly to emergencies and maintain law and order.

He assured residents that the command remained fully prepared to tackle any security threats before they escalate.

The police commissioner pointed to the increased visibility of officers on roads and public spaces as evidence of the command’s readiness.

“If you look around physically, you will notice the visibility of police officers across the state,” he stated during the briefing.

He added that the operations would not end with the festive season but would continue as part of sustained efforts to secure Lagos.

Fatai declared that the command would not allow criminals to exploit the busy holiday period to disrupt public peace.

He further assured residents, business owners, and visitors that there would be no room for security lapses across the state.

The commissioner urged Lagosians to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police.

He also called for stronger cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies, insisting that effective policing thrives on public partnership.

According to him, intelligence sharing from members of the public remains critical in preventing crime and strengthening security operations.

Fatai reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere across Lagos throughout the festive season and beyond.
