“Attackers Film Brutal Assault, Release Video To Intimidate Residents”
Tension has gripped Ofulonu community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State following a brazen early-morning attack on a family by suspected armed hoodlums, leaving the matriarch critically injured and her husband narrowly escaping death.
The violent incident reportedly occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on January 6, 2026, when a gang allegedly stormed the residence of Jude Eze Oforka and his wife, Nkechi Eze, in the Echara axis of the university town and launched a coordinated assault on members of the household.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers overpowered the family, tied the hands and legs of several victims and subjected them to severe beatings, leaving multiple members of the household with serious injuries.
The most grievous casualty of the attack was Mrs. Nkechi Eze, who reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries during the assault and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Enugu, where doctors are battling to stabilise her condition.
A family associate, Mr. Asogwa Chibueze, who attempted to intervene during the attack, was also reportedly brutalised by the assailants and left with significant injuries.
In a disturbing twist, the attackers were said to have recorded the violent episode and later uploaded the footage on social media platforms, where it quickly went viral, allegedly as a warning to residents who might attempt to challenge their activities in the area.
Following the incident, solicitors to the victims submitted a petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Enugu Annex, accusing several individuals of attempted murder, armed robbery, cultism and grievous assault.
Those named in the petition include Hillary Eze, Stella Eze, Ernest Eze, Oguejiofor Eze, Chima Eze, Christian Ezea, Simon Ezugwu and Nnaemeka Eze, alongside other alleged gang members whose identities were said to be known to the complainants.
According to the petition, the suspects also allegedly stole a Tecno Spark 40 mobile phone belonging to the complainant, containing SIM cards with numbers 08030919039 and 08034905681, valued at about N250,000, in addition to carting away N55,000 in cash and damaging another mobile device during the attack.
The victims further alleged that during the assault the attackers boasted of strong influence within the Nsukka Area Command of the Enugu State Police Command and threatened to frustrate any attempt by the family to pursue justice.
While calling for urgent intervention, the petition urged police authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, prosecute anyone found culpable and provide adequate protection for the victims, stressing that the safety of the affected family remains under serious threat.
