The 2024 Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) and Communications Experts concluded on November 21, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the Nigeria Police Force’s oversight and accountability. The event, which commenced on November 18, ended with a regimental dinner to celebrate its success.
Themed “Strengthening the Nigeria Police Force Oversight and Accountability,” the conference focused on equipping PPROs with advanced skills for effective communication, fostering public trust, improving human relations, and enhancing police accountability. It featured sessions led by experts from the public relations sector, non-governmental organizations, international bodies, and other relevant fields.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, represented by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, presented awards and commendations to several outstanding officers. Recognized for their exemplary performance were the PPROs of FCT, Bauchi, Delta, and Abia States, along with ASP Julius Robinson, a tactical team commander in Delta State Command.
In his remarks, the IGP described the conference as a milestone achievement towards more effective policing strategies. He extended his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State for their warm hospitality. The IGP also acknowledged the support of various agencies, international organizations, and individuals who contributed to the conference’s success.
The IGP reiterated his call for public support in embracing the innovative measures introduced by the current police leadership. He emphasized that these initiatives are designed to improve oversight, enhance accountability, and ensure quality service delivery, ultimately driving Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
The conference served as a platform for knowledge sharing and capacity building, reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and public engagement.
