12-Year-Old Chiderije Mbah Takes The Helm As Wema Bank’s One-Day MD/CEO In Children’s Day Celebration

In a remarkable display of youth empowerment and visionary celebration of Children’s Day 2025, Wema Bank PLC, Nigeria’s most innovative financial institution, named 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah as its One-Day Managing Director/CEO. The event, held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the bank’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos, formed part of Wema Bank’s broader commitment to nurturing future leaders through its Children’s Day initiative.

Chiderije emerged winner of the One-Day MD/CEO challenge after submitting a compelling video entry in which he shared his dream of leading a bank and making financial services more engaging for young people. The entry was part of an online campaign inviting children to express their interest in banking roles while holding or opening a Royal Kiddies Account (ages 0–12) or ALAT Xplore Wallet (ages 13–17).

Chosen from among dozens of participants, Chiderije received a grand purple-carpet welcome at Wema Bank’s corporate office. His day as MD/CEO included a guided tour of the bank, executive briefings, and an opportunity to chair a strategy session with senior executives.

“This is the best day of my life,” Chiderije said excitedly. “Wema Bank made me feel important. I’m learning so much about being a leader and how banking works. I’ll tell all my friends to open a Wema Bank Royal Kiddies Account so they can also start learning how to save and maybe one day, they can be MD too!”

The initiative, which coincides with Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary, highlights the institution’s commitment to early financial literacy and long-term youth development. It also underscores Wema Bank’s future-focused agenda that champions the dreams of young Nigerians.

Commenting on the programme, Wema Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Moruf Oseni, stated,
“Our 80th anniversary is a time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going, knowing fully well that the future belongs to young stars like Chiderije. Today’s activity is one of our ways of showing that we believe in the children, that we’re listening, and that we’re committed to helping them succeed financially, personally, and professionally all the way.”

As Wema Bank continues to blend innovation with legacy, the One-Day MD/CEO experience stands as a testament to its belief in the boundless potential of Nigerian children—and its dedication to building a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
